Westside Trail Bridge over US-26
In DesignA planned pedestrian and bicycle bridge crossing US Highway 26 to close a critical gap in the Westside Trail between SW Greenbrier Parkway and NW Cornell Road.
Agency: THPRD
THPRD is designing a dedicated pedestrian and bicycle bridge to carry the Westside Trail over US Highway 26 (Sunset Highway), closing a gap that currently forces trail users onto high-speed arterials. The crossing would connect SW Greenbrier Parkway on the south side to NW Cornell Road on the north side.
Why It Matters
US-26 is a barrier that severs the Westside Trail in the Beaverton hills. Without a bridge, cyclists and pedestrians cannot complete the full trail north-south without mixing with freeway-adjacent traffic. This crossing is one of the most important single pieces of infrastructure for the regional trail network on the westside.
Current Status
The project has earned over $1.9 million in Metro 2019 Parks and Nature Bond Trail Grant funding for design and permitting. Additional funding sources include THPRD system development charges, Metro Regional Flexible Funds, Oregon Community Paths grants, and the Washington County MSTIP Opportunity Fund.
Total estimated cost: $14.5–$27.2 million depending on engineering and construction constraints (central estimate ~$18.1 million).
Community engagement was conducted February–March 2026, with nearly 150 responses received. THPRD extended the project schedule to evaluate feedback and hold an additional in-person public meeting, anticipated spring/summer 2026.
Board milestones:
- Draft Trail Alignment Concept Plan → THPRD Board: September 9, 2026
- Final plan for board approval: November 11, 2026
- Construction target: ~2030, contingent on additional grant funding

Related THPRD Project: Beaverton Creek Trail (Segments 3 & 4)
A separate but related THPRD project will build a 1.5-mile off-street trail connecting the Westside Trail to SW Hocken Avenue through central Beaverton, running alongside the TriMet MAX corridor and Beaverton Creek. Metro approved $2,055,647 from its 2025–2027 Regional Flexible Funds for this project. Construction is planned for 2025–2026. See the Westside Trail page for full trail context.
